Nemo held by Bishopstown
May 11, 2012
The race for the Cork SFC is well underway with some exciting first round games having taken place in the past week.
Championship favourites Nemo Rangers must replay their first round tie with Bishopstown after extra-time failed to separate the sides at Pairc Ui Rinn. An upset looked to be on the cards when Bishopstown - who are managed by former Cork minor boss Brian Cuthbert - led by 1-6 to 0-3 at the interval. But a storming second half comeback from the Trabeg club meant that Bishopstown needed two late points from Daniel O'Donovan and Denis Crowley to send the game to extra-time.
In Dunmanway, John Hayes scored 0-7 as Carbery Rangers defeated their neighbours Clonakilty 1-14 to 1-7. Last year's intermediate 'premier' winners Newmarket were taught a harsh lesson when they crashed to a 0-6 to 0-17 defeat to St. Finbarr's, Castlehaven edged out Aghada 0-12 to 0-9, Ballincollig overwhelmed Ilen Rovers on a 1-15 to 0-5 scoreline, while Carbery signalled their intent with a 2-15 to 0-11 trouncing of CIT.
The action continues this weekend with West Cork rivals O'Donovan Rossa and Doheny's coming face to face in Clonakilty, Newcestown taking on St. Nick's in Brinny, and Nemo Rangers and Bishopstown replaying their first round game.
