O'Donovan Rossa club notes
February 04, 2010
The O'Donovan Rossa junior 1 footballers were drawn against
Kilbrittain in the first round of the South West football
championships made at the monthly board meeting held in Dunmanway
last Wednesday evening.
This represents a tough task for Skibb as they prepare to come up
against the Black and Amber outfit who annexed the county B football
title last year to secure their promotion to the A grade this year.
The junior hurlers were drawn to play Ballinascarthy in the first
round of the hurling championship.
The seniors first round Tadhg Crowley Cup clash against Bishopstown
has been confirmed for this Friday evening, February 5, at 8.30pm in
Cloughduv. The winners of this tie will proceed to a quarter-final
tie the following weekend against the victors of the Carbery Rangers/
Ilen Ross tie whilst the losing team will enter into a Shield
tournament against the losing team of the aforementioned Ross/Ilen game.
The first round of the Kelleher Shield has been provisionally
scheduled for the last weekend in February with Rossas due to host
newly promoted senior outfit Valley Rovers on Sunday, February 28.
The following weekend sees the senior footballers travel to play
Killavullen in the second round of the league campaign.
The under-21 footballers enjoyed a comfortable win over Kilmacabea in
a challenge game played in Leap last Sunday morning. Paudie Crowley
and Alfie Hyland were members of the Rossa College team that were
defeated in the C Colleges county football final last Friday afternoon.
The 09 minor league final against Carbery Rangers has been
tentatively scheduled for the weekend of February 20/21. There are a
limited amount of Gaeltacht scholarships available to pursue over a
three week duration during the summer season. Any players interested
should contact Nealie McCarthy, as soon as possible.
There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in Kearney's
Well, last Monday night for e6,000. The numbers drawn were 1, 14, 21
and 23. The consolation prize winner was Liam Flaherty. Next week's
lotto draw will be held in McCarthy's Bar and will have a jackpot of
e6,250.
