Sigerson Cup: O'Driscoll goal gives UCC the edge

Barry O'Driscoll scored a stunning extra-time goal as UCC overcame DIT in a hard-fought Sigerson Cup first round clash at the Mardyke yesterday. UCC 1-10 DIT 0-7 (after extra-time) The Nemo Rangers player, who was unable to start the game due to injury, was introduced near the end of normal time and proceeded to score 1-1 in extra-time, which ultimately decided the contest. In what was a poor quality affair, the sides were tied on 0-3 apiece at half-time with David O'Callaghan pointing the way for the home side and Kildare's Ross Glavin impressing at centre back for DIT. UCC nudged ahead after the restart, but a shocking tally of 20 wides over the hour meant they were unable to pull away and DIT's Martin Reilly sent the game into extra-time with a last-gasp equaliser. An O'Driscoll free put UCC 0-8 to 0-7 head at the midway juncture of extra-time and after David Goold curled over a 74th minute free, O'Driscoll pounced for the decisive goal.
