The GAA dinner dance which was held last Saturday night in the West
Cork Hotel was a resounding success with a huge crowd enjoying a
terrific night's entertainment in honour and recognition of the
junior 3 footballers who annexed a glorious league and championship
double.
The West Cork Hotel looked resplendent on the night with the various
pieces of decor draped in the famed red and white club colours
combined with nostalgic photographs of the successful junior 3 team
littered throughout the ballroom creating a stunning backdrop which
was appreciated by everyone. After a splendid five course meal which
was gleefully devoured by the capacity crowd, MC Alan Foley invited
the three dignitaries present, Cathaoirelach Brendan Leahy, South
West Board chairman Declan Walsh and Kerry inter-county star Marc "
SÈ to address the crowd.
The three distinguished guests entertained the crowd with a series of
anecdotes and words of advice which were taken on board by an
appreciative audience. Club chairman John Carmody was next to speak
and he began by paying tribute to the successful junior 3 team for
their succesful exploits and wished them well as they prepare to move
up to the B grade this season.
John Carmody also acknowledged the trojan work undertaken over the
past few months by the diligent dinner dance committee who were
instrumental in ensuring the smooth running and success of this
event. The dinner dance committee consisted of Alan Foley, Moira
Cahalane, Mary Keohane, John Bohane, Ann Collins and Ann Crowley.
Team captain, John Bohane, was next to rise to the podium and the
wing back made an impassioned speech praising his team-mates for
their dedication and levels of performances throughout the previous
season. John stated how proud and honoured he was to lead such an
impressive array of talent into battle and re-iterated his unerring
belief that they would be a genuine force to be reckoned with at
junior B level if they maintained the same playing personnel for this
year.
Star corner back Marc " SÈ who boasts a glittering CV then proceeded
to present the league and championship medals to the victorious
panel, before Noel Collins was presented with a special award by team
captain John Bohane, in recognition of his towering ëMan of the
Match' performance against Tadhg MacC·rthaigh in last year's
championship final. A fantastic selection of prizes was also raffled
on the night with all profits raised going to a special Haiti
Emergency Fund.
Kenmare based band Uibh Bhrian were next on stage providing a
plethora of classic hits which were throughly enjoyed by the
revellers who soaked up the merry ambiance in the thronged dance
floor in a magical night which will live long in every supporters'
memory.
A committee meeting will be held in the pavilion next Monday evening,
February 1, at 8.30pm.
There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in Cahalane's
Bar, last Monday night for e5,750. The numbers drawn were 8, 12, 14
and 17. The consolation prize winner was Michael Hegarty. Next week's
lotto draw will be held in Cahalane's Bar and will have a jackpot of
