The junior B hurlers put up a valiant display before ultimately bowing out of the championship at the first hurlers against Gabriel Rangers last Sunday afternoon in Ballydehob, on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-8. Gabriels scored first and led by 0-3 pts to 0-1 after ten minutes but Rossas gradually took control at midfield with Donal Og Hodnett and Rob McCarthy picking up the breaking ball and knocking them over the bar. Between them this talented duo scored six points in the first half. Alan Tanner was a rock at centre back where he was ably assisted by Paudie Cotter and Paul Kearney. Skibbís hopes of victory were rocked by the concession of three goals conceded before half time which left Skibb trailing by seven points at the interval. Rossaís dominated possession in the second half without converting it into scores. Skibb scored a consolation goal near the end but it was too little too late. The junior D footballers began their league campaign in clinical fashion duly emerging comfortable winners over Bantry on a 3-8 to 0-8 scoreline after an exciting league encounter played in Wolfe Tone Park last Friday evening. Skibb opened the scoring in sensational early fashion with David Shannon despatching the leather to the net after a mere 12 seconds had elapsed. Skibb centre back Jack O'Driscoll, who was inspirational throughout scored a sublime solo goal midway through the first half to ensure Skibb held a three point lead at the small break. Skibb dominated the second half with the midfield partnership of Denis OíRegan and Jonathan Davis providing a platform for Skibb to attack relentlessly. Liam Collins chipped the advancing Bantry goalkeeper for a peach of a goal to secure the two league points for a very strong Skibb outfit. Skibb have two remaining games to play in their league section against Castlehaven and Ilen Rovers. The O'Donovan Rossa minor footballers continued their impressive league form with a convincing ten point win over St. Nickís in a league game played in Blackpool last Thursday evening on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-8. The Skibb goalscorers were Denis O'Regan, Ger Minihane and Paudie Crowley with a piledriver from the penalty spot. Sub used: Finian Fitzgerald. The Skibb junior footballers defeated Newcestown whilst drawing with Bantry in two junior football league games played over the course of the last week. These two games complete Skibbís league programme for this year. Skibb are out in championship action this Saturday, July 4, when they play Clonakilty in a third round tie at 8pm in Rosscarbery. The minor hurlers C championship quarter-final tie against St. Oliver Plunketts has been provisionally scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at 7.30pm in Ballinacarriga. The third round junior football championship clash between Gabriel Rangers and Ballinascarthy is scheduled to be held in the Rossa Park this Friday evening at 8pm. All stewards are requested to be in place at 7pm.There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in The Horse and Hound last Monday night. The numbers drawn were 4, 7, 14 and 16. The consolation prize winner was Tommy OíDonoghue. Next weeks lotto draw will be held in The Paragon Bar and will have a jackpot of e6,500.
