TG4 Ladies Gaelic Football Championship Previews

May 27, 2016

A look ahead to the two TG4 ladies championship games this weekend.

Saturday, May 28th

TG4 Munster Intermediate Championship - Clare v Limerick, Kilmihil (2pm), Referee: Michael Duffy

Limerick will need to get a win in this match if they want to have any hope of progressing through to the provincial championship decider. Defeat to Tipperary in their championship opener has left them facing into this must win encounter with a fresh Clare side. As always all eyes will be on Dymphna O'Brien who is their attacking inspiration but she will need Niamh Richardson to be on top form around the middle of the field where she will instrumental in providing enough possession for the diminutive attacker.

This Clare side will be rearing to get their championship campaign under way having enjoyed a good league campaign despite losing out in their Lidl NFL Division 2 semi final to Westmeath. There is a lot of optimism around the banner who will fancy their chances of appearing in Croke Park next September. Niamh O'Dea and Ailish Considine are their key players and should they hit top form it might be a long day for Limerick.

TG4 Ulster Intermediate Championship - Fermanagh v Tyrone, Emyvale (7pm),

The first appearance of Tyrone in the TG4 Intermediate championship is sure to draw a lot of interest. The 2010 All Ireland Finalists decided to regrade to Intermediate level for this season and will want to hit the ground running with their young side. Neamh Woods has consistently been the best performer for her county over the last few years and she will be a key component to their challenge for the Ulster Championship.

Fermanagh have been the top team in Ulster for the past few years but they will now face huge competition from Tyrone this weekend and Down who await the winner in the next round. Fermanagh endured a very difficult Lidl National Football League campaign as they were relegated from Division 3 and they must now lift themselves for this vital encounter. If Fermanagh can rediscover their form of recent years they will be in with a great chance of victory but, shorn of some big names, they will have to hit top form to overcome Tyrone.
