Donal Óg Cusack has insisted that he won't be a 'yes man' to Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald in his new role with the Banner hurlers.

The former Cork goalkeeper agreed to join Fitzgerald's backroom team as selector and coach at the end of last month, resigning his post as chairman of the Gaelic Players Association and an RTE pundit in the process for 2016, and is looking forward to working with the All-Ireland champions of 2013.

"I've been on record as saying I was a fan of how they played the game," said Cusack in the Irish Examiner.

"Style is personal, so everyone has their own tastes in terms of preferences on how the game should be played.

"But I would be a fan of that group and how they played the game in the last couple of years. Davy doesn't want yes men around him. I know we've got one definite common in place between the two of us; we both love the game. We sat down a couple of times. We spoke at length on a number of occasions."

Cusack is currently overseas in Boston, where he is working with the GPA to promote tomorrow's Fenway Hurling Classic between Dublin and Galway at the iconic Fenway Park - home to the Boston Red Sox franchise.

More than 20,000 tickets have been sold for the exhibition game at one of America's oldest and most famous sports stadiums.
