A defiant Davy Fitzgerald says Clare will fight tooth and nail to preserve their Allianz Hurling League Division 1A status.

The 2013 All-Ireland champions are in grave danger of dropping out of the top flight after their third defeat of the campaign at the hands of Tipperary. The latest reversal means the Banner have now failed to win any of the last seven competitive games, but their manager isn't panicking just yet.

"I'm a lot happier with that performance today," he said.

"It's not all doom and gloom. We are disappointed, very much so, but today's performance was much better.

"We will have the doomers and gloomers around, but if we keep playing with that kind of passion and spirit, we will win games.

"We've lost two games that, in my opinion, we've played well in. Cork, granted, were a lot better than we were in the second half. The Galway game, we could have won. I reckon it was a lot tighter than five points today.

"Just simple errors cost us. Anytime we mishandled or mislaid a ball, it cost us. But there was a lot more fight there."

Admitting that Clare are in a relegation battle, Fitzgerald added: "I'm disappointed. We want to win. We tried everything to win today. There's going to be a big backlash from Dublin. It's looking like we're going to be in the fight, but what will come will come and we'll deal with it."
