Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin regards Kilmallock's shock Limerick SHC final victory over Na Piarsaigh as one of the sweetest he's experienced in hurling.

The former Clare All-Ireland winner guided Adare to a three-in-a-row of Limerick SHC titles from 2007-'09 and repeated the trick with Kilmallock yesterday when they claimed a 1-15 to 0-14 win over the holders.

"It definitely rates up there in the top drawer, because nobody gave Kilmallock a chance today," 'Sparrow' told RTE.

"Na Piarsaigh were justifiably 4/9, and I think, to be fair to them they showed all the great characters they have and all the great traits they have during the group stage. We knew today it would come down to a battle.

"The conditions changed in the last couple of nights, and when we had a puck-about on Friday, we said, 'Look, these are going to be the conditions next Sunday so we're going to have meet fire with fire'.

"I thought, if we were out there until seven o'clock this evening we'd have still scraped home by a point or two."

His opposite number Shane O'Neill admitted that the better side won.

"They (Kilmallock) thoroughly deserved their win - I thought they were excellent and worked really hard from the very word go. They set out their stall early and stuck to it," he said.
