Ulster Championship Draw

(Oldest Posts First)

Well lads, don't know about ye but the Ulster draw this year ain't bad at all. The 3 big hitters the far side of the wall. Should give us a good chance to win a few Ulster games this year and who knows...

no excuses for not getting to the ulster final this year. only fermanagh/donegal/down/antrim to worry about. we should beat any one of those...although donegal are better than us...so are fermanagh, oh and come to think of it so are down, still all the same a nice handy draw. every one of those teams will fancu their chances. Cavan for the Ango Celt this year.

has their ever been a decade when a cavan team didn't make the ulster fnal ?

Wouldn't say so. Even in the barren years of 70's & 80's think we made the final at least once, think it was 83 v Donegal and late 70's v Derry. 97 goes for itself, and then in 2001 v Tyrone, Jayo's quick free-kick from the 21 bouncing narrowly wide and losing by just two points.

So in that regard, we're fine, but the draw gives us a chance at least. That said, there should be no draw in Ulster that is impossible, withthe right attitude. How did Tyrone do in Ulster this year? What about Armagh when they were All-Ireland champions?

It's all about commitment and belief, and sadly over recent years we've been sadly lacking, but that can be turned around, if the effort is forthcoming

This draw gives us a good chance to reach the Ulster Final. I can see Fermanagh beating Down and traditionally we always beat Fermanagh. Donegal will be hard as always but it will be a test for our new manager to get Cavan mentally ready and properly focused, something we have being lacking. Belief is everything and can overcome all barriers. I believe we can reach the final and who knows where we can go from there. Carr needs to throw out the dead wood and experiment in the Mc Kenna cup and League. Guts is as important as skill and we need a few battlers.

Cavan were in Ulster Finals in 1969, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1995, 1997 and 2001. Before that we won every 2nd one! The draw is favourable in that we avoid the really big hitters but it still won't be easy. I think if Fermanagh win the preliminary round that they'll have to come to Breffni to face us. We'll have a chance there. I'd just be looking for a really good fight against Donegal.
Also, why is the report on the fixtures stating that Down are in the preliminary round for the 4th year in a row. They weren't in it last year as we played Antrim in it (and played Down in it the 2 years before that.)

The 3 big hitters and Derry on the other side of the draw, makes things look very rosy for Cavan indeed.

Thanks "mylestheslasher" for your research. I had an inkling that there wasn't a barren decade but couldn't be sure.
I really think that we should make the final this year. looking forward to a lovely sunny day out in Clones. something to keep my spirits up during the long winter months. the lads should be bouyed up by the draw, they should really give it a go under Carr. I know whoever comes out of the other side of the draw will be massive favourites but you never know.
