New Disiplinary Measures

(Oldest Posts First)

Just reading the reports from Down under regarding the one yellow and your off motion which was passed.
Does this mean if you recieve a black followed by a yellow later in the match you can stay on, or just recieve the yellow and you go off regardless of a black issued previously.
Anyway I'm confusing myself on that one. The reason I'm posting, is if this is brought down through club levels after its inter county berth, does anyone think that the standard of club referees at the moment would be able to handle/implement these proposed new changes? I doubt it myself but it might never happen

Sounds like nobody knows whats going on.

Yellow card should be a sin bin for 10 mins. With 5 mins left in a game for example its not going to stop synical fouling if the guy can be replaced!!!

I think the rules changes are going to be hard to implement at club level as for example if my team were going out to play Cavan Gaels and I was put out to mark Seanie Johnston I could just wrestle with him on the gorund, both of us would receive a yellow card and have to off with a replacement coming on, my team would probably be able to bring a player of equal talent to myself, however as good a panel as the Gaels have they wouldn't have anyone as good as Johnston to bring on. Teams may even abuse this rule by starting a player with no ability whatsoever just so that he can take the other teams star player out of the game.

ScatmanTom-I don't know how you can say the Gaels have one exceptional player in Sean Johnston and leave out some of the panel. If they double make Johnston they still have ways thru with Lyng, Murray, etc. The back line is also strong and has some great players naming alone Rabbitte and E. Reilly. And if the Gaels play like they did against Ramor no team in Cavan is going to beat them. Also Mullahoran beating the Gaels three times in 10yrs doesn't make Mullahoran a great team-at the end of the day teams have to lose at some stage. Remember both teams in the All-Ireland final this yr lost their provincial titles, showing that even the best teams lose at some stage. In saying that the Gaels still have to prove themselves in Ulster and I'm sure again this is their main focus this yr.

Oneforthefuture, I started a thread about the disiplinary rules, not Cavan Gaels strenght and dept. Good points from the other lads though. And even at intercounty level I can see a few hot heads would just be targeted for a reaction.
I know with my own club, a few lads would fall into that category!

Mullahorn have only beaten the Gaels twice in 11yrs in Champioship football. Played 7- Gaels 5 Mullahorn 2

Why are people so tetchy. The man only mentioned Johnson as an example and he is set upon. Get a grip lads and dont ruin the debate.

I believe the One Yellow rule is flawed as teams CAN target a good/dangerous player who they know to have a short fuse. It is worth a try though. The difficulty i can see is at club level where you have umpires and linesmen who rarely ever see anything and it is left to the referree who would need eyes in the back of his head to see all that goes on. I think they have a fourth official in soccer who brings matters to the attention of the ref if he misses it. This might work and he should be independent of the two teams playing.

Thanks for the support Slasher, we have argued about things in the past but good to know you seen where i was coming from with that post. As I said in my post Seanie Johnston was only used as an example of a top quality player.
