A Mullagh welcome

February 28, 2006
The face of Mullagh is changing on a daily basis. This once secluded village is becoming one of the most popular attractions in Cavan, with the popular Kilians Lodge Hotel providing a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. Mullagh is a rapidly-developing area, with a veritable population explosion and multiple new businesses/services popping up to cater for the needs of a growing community. Still, the scenic lakeside setting retains all of its rustic charm and peaceful tranquillity, marking it out as a thoroughly unique and worthy destination. The genesis of Kilians Lodge Hotel at the heart of the town is a landmark chapter in Mullagh's story, as the new establishment enables Mullagh to compete on an even playing field with surrounding commercial centres. The hotel keeps business in the town; attracts outside trade; and is already proving extremely beneficial to the local GAA club, Cuchulainns, who had plenty of reason to celebrate there during the course of 2005. The Mullagh/Cross club culled both the county intermediate football championship and the minor Division Two title. Celebrations at Kilians Lodge Hotel marked both occasions accordingly! The newest hotel to throw open its doors to the public in the Cavan/Meath area, Kilians Lodge Hotel captures the perfect combination of top-class facilities and a warm, personal touch. Every client is afforded the utmost courtesy and treated as a special guest whose presence is very much appreciated. Everyone is welcome at the Kilians Lodge. Owned and fronted by business partners Michael Farrelly and Tracy Clarke, Kilians Lodge Hotel is a superbly appointed business establishment which is fast developing a reputation as one of the finest hotels in the region. Boasting a comfortable bar and lounge as well as ten en suite bedrooms finished tastefully to the highest level of style and comfort, it's a truly delightful place to visit. Freshly cooked breakfast is served daily from 7am until 12 noon and lunch is then available between 12 and 4pm. The evening menu, including full A La Carte, kicks in between the hours of 4pm and 10pm, offering guests and diners a wide selection of the finest cuisine in pleasant and ambient surroundings. Sunday lunch is a definite speciality and is proving extremely popular with locals and curious visitors alike. There is live entertainment provided at weekends, with something to suit every taste and plenty of fun to be had by all. Live music is provided every Saturday night and from 6-9 on Sunday evenings, as well as midweek, on Wednesday nights. The new hotel caters for parties and functions - an area where the Kilians Lodge really comes into its own. Located at the centre of a fast-developing and naturally beautiful region, Kilians Lodge Hotel is a popular venue for any family celebration - weddings, private parties, club dinners, presentation evenings etc. Both proprietors bring plenty of experience and goodwill into the promising project. Michael and Tracy are well-known and highly-regarded in the business and social communities of North Meath/Cavan. Originally from Carnaross, Michael is one of the Farrelly Brothers, who are leading agricultural contractors in the area. As his mother Lil (nee Donoghue) hails from Cloughballey in Mullagh, Michael certainly knows a thing or two about life in the east Cavan village. Returning to his origins so to speak, Michael says he aims to offer customers a top class service in a friendly and relaxed environment. Business partner Tracy Clarke also hails from Carnaross and boasts a wealth of experience of the hotel trade, equipping her with the skills and insight necessary to oversee the Mullagh operation. Prior to embarking on this project, Tracy worked in a number of hotels for a total of 15 years, including the Piker's Lodge in Gowna, the Lakeside Manor in Virginia and Waxie's of Athboy. With her pleasant manner and friendly disposition, Tracy is both a warm and knowledgeable host, bringing her vast experience of the hotel business to this exciting new venture. The ambience and considered layout of the hotel lends itself to an atmosphere of comfort, serenity and friendliness. Kilians Lodge has been thoughtfully furnished and finished to the highest standard, with great care taken to ensure that the establishment reflects the atmosphere of the scenic lakeside setting where it is located. Amiable, helpful management and staff are on hand to offer a personal touch, which is appreciated by the strong customer base who use the hotel to wind down, relax or take in a tasty meal or beverage. Kilians Lodge exudes a strong sense of history and tradition. The hotel is based on a site that has been a licensed premises for 136 years, going right back to the time when Philip Carolan opened a public house at No 48 way back in 1870. The old building was demolished and reconstructed as the Ardlo Hotel seven years ago. The new owners have changed the name to Kilians Lodge. The Mullagh area, synonymous with St Kilian, offers a host of local attractions including angling, tourism and of course the local GAA club, Cuchulainns. The general Meath/Cavan border region has witnessed a massive population surge in recent years, with Mullagh braced for further dramatic expansion. Ideally located to take advantage of this projected growth, the new hotel also perfectly reflects the newfound vibrancy of the region. Kilians Lodge Hotel projects a positive image of the east Cavan area and could prove a valuable tool in attracting more commercial and industrial enterprises into the locality. Michael and Tracy are on hand to cater for the people of Mullagh and beyond for the long-term and are determined to provide the area with the level of service it deserves in this day and age.
