East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club Notes
January 29, 2012
Under 8/10;
We have had a tremendous response to our registration night. With over 40 players registered for under 8 and under 10 we have had to split our group into 2 on Fridays. Under 8s are now from 6-7 and under 10s from 7-8 on Fridays at the Community School Sports Hall, Bailieborough. We always have room for more so if you would like to join with us then please call in any Friday to see if hurling is the game for you. Hurling is really starting to take hold and we have some exiting and talented young players coming through the ranks. €2 each for the hire of the hall please.
Under 12/14;
Final preparations are now under way for the Under 14 Hurling Championship which also acts as qualification for national Feilé which this year is in Dublin at the end of June. Our lads have worked extremly hard to have themselves ready for this competition. This is our first official appearence at this age group and we hope for a large turnout in support for this team. Sunday 5th February at 12.30 on the 3G at Breffni Park. Their opponents will be perennial Cavan hurling champions Woodford Gaels. Our lads will be giving up some age and size advantage to their erstwhile opponents but are confident in their ability to cause an upset. Best of luck to the management team of Kathryn O Flynn and Kirk Sweeney and we all wish them well next Sunday.
The under 12 spring hurling league is scheduled to start on March 20th.
Kingscourt;
We haven't forgot about Kingscourt. When local indoor facilities become available we will return. Kingscourt Stars will, as they have always done, lend their facilities to hurling when the weather improves. Players from Kingscourt are welcome to practise with the groups in Bailieborough. We cater for all hurlers from everywhere
East Cavan Gaels Hurling Club was formed in July 2009 by a committed group of adults with a strong interest in the game and its development to cater for the hurling needs of the area including Bailieborough, Kingscourt, Shercock, Killinkere and Knockbride. From having the initial under 8/10 sides, with just a dozen or so players, we now cater for ages up to 14 with numbers up to 60+ players. We have coaches from each of the areas above on our coaching team and our plan is to grow the club until we cater for all age groups for hurling. Kingscourt Stars, Bailieborough Shamrocks and Killinkere have all made their facilities available for hurling development and training now takes place regularly in each of these clubs. We have an open door policy where anyone with an interest in the game whether as a player or mentor/coach is welcome to attend any of our sessions. Contact
