Cootehill Celtic GAA Club Notes

August 30, 2010
SENIORS
All roads lead to Kingspan Breffni Park this Saturday night at 8pm for the Intermediate Championship Quarter Final clash against Drumalee.  In what is sure to be a tough and hard fought encounter, the Celts will have to be at their best to beat a Drumalee side who are coached by former Cootehill Manager Mickey Lee.  Training has been going well and the management of Ciaran Brennan and Paul Sherlock should have a full squad to pick from so best of luck lads and hopefully next week we will be talking about a semi final!!

JUVENILES
Last weekend was an action packed one for the underage section of the club with trips to Croke Park, Adventure Centres and a wee bit of football as well!!
The Under 8s were just out the road in Tanagh Outdoor Adventure Centre on Saturday morning where the youngsters along with Coaches Barry McGahan, Chris Smith, John McCutcheon, Dean Connolly and Aidan McCabe were out on Dromore River canoeing and swimming much to everyone's delight - you could say some took to it like a duck to water!!  Next up was the slippery slope for an awful bit of craic and before heading home the young Celts were treated to a meal to round off a great morning of enjoyment and excitement.  Thanks to all who helped organised the day.
The Under 10s, 12 and 14s were next out, leaving Cootehill early on Sunday morning on the road to Croker! Over 30 children and nearly as many adults took in a tour around Croke Park itself, then the GAA Museum before watching two games of the highest standard with Cork winning a terrific Minor game and then Down booking their All Ireland Final place with a exciting two point win over Kildare.  On the way home, they all stopped into the Country Club for some much needed food but heading back to Cootehill after a long but thoroughly enjoyable day.  Thanks to all who helped supervise the children and especially to those who organised the day.
The Under 12s were in action in the final blitz of the season on Saturday afternoon in Breffni Park.  The county was divided up into regions so Cootehill found themselves up against strong team like Baileboro and Kingscourt but despite this the boys held their own and enjoyed the day all the same.
The Under 14s are in action tonight (Monday) against Redhills at 7pm in Hugh O'Reilly Park in the Roinn E Championship Semi-Final.  After being beaten in league semi final and the Under 13s falling at the same stage, hopefully they can go one step further tonight and get to a final!  Best of luck lads!!
Training will continue for the Under 8s and 10s this Saturday at 10.30am in Hugh O'Reilly Park ahead of the running of the club's tournaments for these age groups which will take place Saturday week (11th September).  More details will appear in next week's notes.

AND IN OTHER NEWS....
Best of luck to all club youngsters who are heading back to school this week.
And well done to senior player Joshua Hayes who played at corner back for UCD in a two point win over Templeogue Synge Street in the second round of the Dublin Senior Championship on Thursday night last.  The college side were winners on a 10 points to 0 - 5 score line over a team which boasted Dubs' Senior players Eoghan O'Gara and Denis Bastick.
