Minor Championship Semi Final
St Josephs lined out on Wednesday evening in Stradone to face Killan Gaels (Bailieboro & Shercock). With Bailieboro having beaten them in league previously this was going to be a touch game for St Josephs.
Killan Gaels opened scoring with a point but St Joes answered quickly with points from J Ellis (1) and K Bouchier (2). Killan Gaels full forward however sent the Gaels ahead when he put over another point and found a way through to beat the keeper. In the first half St Josephs probably had more ball but found it very hard to find a way through a strong Gaels full back line and with a lot of inaccurate shooting found themselves leaving the field with a score line of 1-02 to 0-3 down at half time.
Killian Gaels opened their scoring quickly with a point at the start of the second half but only managed one more point from a free in this half, the lack of scores allowed St Josephs to find a way back into the match, with some positional changes on the field making a difference to their game the managed points from C Higgins (1) , K Bouchier (1), F Rudden (1) and J Ellis. At 20 minutes into the second half the team were level and a place in the final was there for the taking. With 3 minutes left Conor Higgins found himself with the opportunity to put Joes ahead when a free was awarded in scoring distance. He slotted the ball over and St Josephs have 3 minutes plus injury time left to defend their lead. Killan Gaels threw every man forward and managed to test Gareth Smith who made a fine save to keep his team ahead. Final score 1-04 to 0-08.
