ACFL 3: Swad and Munchies into decider
August 18, 2010

Swanlinbar attacker Mark Cunningham struck 0-5 in Sunday's Ulster club JFC semi-final against Drumaness at Healy Park, Omagh.
Munterconnacht and Swanlinbar will contest this year's All County Football League Division Three final after both teams came through their respective semi-finals at the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon last, Munterconnacht and Swanlinbar produced an epic at St Felim's Park, Drumalee, which saw the Blues edge a 1-17 to 2-11 victory to book their place into the third tier decider.
Played in perfect weather conditions, it was the winners that had their noses in front at the break by 0-9 to 0-7 thanks to the scores of Shane Reilly, Darragh O'Carroll and former county senior John McCabe, while the Blacklion men registered their scores via young duo PP O'Hara and Nevin O'Donnell and veteran Eamon Reilly.
Shannon Gaels made the perfect restart when Enda McCaffrey set-up O'Donnell for a brilliant goal and when Jonathan Corrigan did likewise minutes later the west Cavan men looked to have one foot in the final.
However, their was a never-say-die attitude about this Munterconnacht side and it showed when they started turning their opportunities into scores, as Carroll, Reilly (2) and Colm Caffrey all raised white flags.
The game looked certain to go into extra-time, before Munchies corner-back Tomas Brady lofted in a long ball which fell to the Gaels' net and when midfielder Stephen Sheridan struck over the insurance point in the next attack Munterconnacht's place in the final was confirmed.
In Bawnboy, Swanlinbar were too good for a Cornafean side which finished with 13 men and had their season ended with a 1-12 to 0-9 defeat.
Both these sides had already secured promotion to Division Two along with table-toppers Shannon Gaels, but with a final place at stake and a chance of silverware went all-out in an entertaining encounter.
Swad started the better and opened up a three-point lead after ten minutes through points from Mark Cunningham (2), Barry Doyle and Paul McGovern, which ushered them towards a 0-8 to 0-5 lead at the break.
Liam Duignan and Adrian Caffrey had got on the score-sheet for Cornafean in the opening half, but seven minutes into the resumption the Reds' hopes were dealt a severe blow when Robbie Prior got in behind their defence and blasted past goalkeeper Andrew Smith to the net.
Cornafean hit back with points from Duignan and Padraig Tully, but then went into self-destruct as Val Sheridan was sent off in the 48th minute and Duignan received his marching orders just four minutes later.
After that there was just no coming back for the Reds, as Swad strolled into a final meeting with Munterconnacht.
