Bailieborough Shamrocks
Bronze Medals for Bailieborough Girls
The under 12 girls had a very exciting weekend at the finals of the Community Games in Athlone. On Saturday they took on the Leinster champions Monasterevan in the semi final. Despite a gallant performance they lost out to a stronger team who incidentally went on to win the title outright. However all was not lost and the Shamrocks girls took the field again on Sunday in the 3rd place play off where they defeated Glanmire from Cork to win the Bronze medals. There was great excitement in the town on their return from their medal winning exploits and great credit must go to these young girls and their mentors for representing Bailieborough so well on the national stage.
Under 16s
The Under 16s lost out in the final of the Championship to Ballymachugh on Saturday evening in Kingspan Breffni Park. Following a shaky start they recovered and performed very well to be level at half time. Unfortunately in the second half, Ballymachugh gained control in the middle of the park and went to claim victory on this occasion. This was probably inevitable in the absence of midfielder Michael Argue who was unfortunate not to start through injury. Despite this defeat, the Shamrocks team were worthy of their place in the final having performed very well all year. They have made excellent progress as individuals and as a team under their mentors Michael Reilly, Kevin Argue, Neil Scanlon and Kevin McIntyre
Minors
Killann Gaels will play St Joseph's in the semi final of the minor championship on Wednesday 18th August in Stradone at 7.30.This has the potential to be a very good game between two sides who have strong title aspirations.
Juniors
The Junior team who were required to fulfil 2 fixtures last weekend came out with a draw against Ballyhaise in the league semi final on Saturday evening. To their credit the same group of players took the field on Sunday morning and defeated Drumalee in a close fought Championship game.
