Greene calls on support
June 19, 2008
Despite losing two finals this year already, Carlow hurling manager Jim Greene is adamant that the Barrowsiders can do well in the Christy Ring Cup if everyone in the county gets behind them.
Carlow were beaten convincingly in both the Division 2 league final and the Kehoe Cup decider last weekend to Westmeath and Meath respectively, which has seen the hurlers come in for some criticism from people in their own county.
Clubs have voiced their concern over the fact that the next round of the senior hurling championship will not take place until August, but Greene stressed that they need the time to prepare correctly for the Christy Ring Cup.
"We will be now training three nights a week for fitness. We need to have all the players back with us mentally. We all need to be having our focus here," said Greene.
"I came here seven months ago with the support of the county board and their support has been very good. But now we also need the support of the clubs for the Christy Ring because it is an important competition."
