Carlow drop down to intermediate

June 19, 2008
It has been confirmed that the 2008 Carlow senior hurling champions will play in the Leinster club IHC this year, much to the delight of county board chairman Pat Deering. The Carlow representatives had been pitting their wits against Leinster's best up until now as they opted not to join the intermediate grade. Following on from Westmeath side Clonkill's success in the All-Ireland IHC last year, they Midlanders' champions will play in the senior championship this year, while Carlow have been regarded. County Board chairman Pat Deering is pleased with this move as he feels that club hurling in the county could provide a real challenge for All-Ireland honours. "In the last number of years we have been playing in the senior championship but this now gives us a great opportunity. I know one of our club teams ran James Stephen's close one year, but they still didn't beat them," said Deering. "This now gives the clubs a great chance in the intermediate grade."
