Royals capture Kehoe Cup
June 15, 2008
Meath 1-20
Carlow 0-17
A combined tally of 1-16 from Niall Hackett, Stephen Clynch and the inspirational Michael Cole helped Meath land the Kehoe Cup in style after seeing off Carlow by six points on Sunday at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise.
The two teams were side by side in the opening stages but as Meath landed their fifth score of the day they began to drift away from their opponents. The sides were at 0-4 apiece when Robert Foley struck two quick scores to give Carlow the lead, but the Royal County responded with a goal by Niall Hackett direct from a free.
Meath then began to turn the screw with some sound free-taking from Hackett to see them into a 1-14 to 0-9 lead at the interval.
Six more points from the Royals ensured victory with Cole instrumental in raising a white flag while setting up both Stephen Clynch and David Cummins for scores to ensure the trophy was destined for Meath.
