Mullally praises effort despite defeat

Carlow Under 21 hurling manager Tom Mullally praised his side's efforts after their defeat to Offaly in the Leinster Championship at Dr Cullen Park last week. The Glenmore man stressed that he was content with his side's first half-performance where they knocked 1-7 passed the Faithful to go in trailing by two at the interval. "I was very pleased with our first-half performance, thought our decision making and hurling was well up to speed," said Mullally. Offaly came out for the second-half and hit 2-7, with the Barrowsiders only scoring a mere point which spelled the end of their Championship campaign. However, the Carlow boss believes that the side gained vital experience from the match and thinks that in the future the side will be able to up the levels of their game given that the commitment is there. "I honestly believe, having experienced that pace first hand for the first time, the players would run Offaly very close if they were to meet them again in a few weeks' time. "Still, considering the difficulties with preparing an Under 21 team at this time of the year, what with exams, club and football commitments the lads worked hard for Brendan (Hayden), Pat (English) and myself and I believe they have the ability to bring their hurling to the next level."
