St Mullins GAA notes
May 30, 2008
Last Friday St Mullins played the first round of the intermediate football championship against Fighting Cocks in Eire Og.
St Mullins started well by opening the scoring with a Walter Coady point but faded for the next twenty minutes where Fighting Cocks played good running football and notched up 1-4.
St Mullins came alive again and after some good work down the right wing, Sean Gahan broke into the box and won a penalty. This was well finished by Willie Foley who also added a point from a free before half time. Fighting Cocks added two more points to lead at the break 1-6 to 1-2.
St Mullins began the second half well with a point each from Walter Coady and Seamus Murphy before Michael Kehoe scored an excellent goal. This left St Mullins a point up but Fighting Cocks responded with three more points. Declan Murphy and Michael Kehoe added a point each to leave the game level but victory was not to be ours on the day as Fighting Cocks finished very strong winning on a final scoreline 1-12 to 2-6.
Team: Cian Doyle, Thomas Coady, John Kennedy, John Murphy, Darren Whelan, Paul Kehoe, Paul Murphy, John Murphy, Tom Doyle, Seamus Murphy 0-1, Declan Murphy 0-1, Sean Gahan, Michael Kehoe1-1, Walter Coady 0-2, Willie Foley 1-1(0-1 free, 1-0 pen). Subs: Ciaran O'Shea for Thomas Coady and Richard Deegan for Walter Coady.
St Mullins played some good football in this game but like the previous few league games seemed to collapse as victory came within their grasp.
