Carlow defender Shane Kavanagh admits there is plenty of work to be done before the start of the NHL.

The league campaign is just under a month away and following last weekend's defeat to UCD in the Walsh Cup, Kavanagh is in no doubt what has to be done over the coming weeks.

"In fairness, we can't fault the effort. Everyone tried hard. UCD are a lot sharper and a lot fitter than we are at this stage which was obvious for everyone to see. That is what we are going to take out of it," Kavanagh revealed to the Carlow Nationalist.

"We have a month to get that sharpness right and get everything up to scratch which we are well capable of." Tweet
