SFC: Champions held by Kildavin-Clonegal
July 22, 2010
Kildavin-Clonegal 0-7
Rathvilly 0-7
Kildavin-Clonegal earned a draw with champions Rathvilly last Friday at Dr Cullen Park to keep themselves perfectly poised for qualification to the knock-out stages.
The challengers got themselves off to a flying start in this encounter to race into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead as Daniel St Ledger and Noel Conway split the Rathvilly uprights.
However, the leaders would be reduced to 14 men shortly afterwards when John Kirwan received his second caution and that allowed Rathvilly back into the game.
After the turn over they drew level as Brendan Murphy grabbed a stronghold around the centre and Gary Dempsey and Ed Finnegan shot the points.
A point from substitute Jamie Byrne put Rathvilly into the lead with little time left, but a nerveless '45' from St Ledger saved a deserved draw for Kildavin-Clonegal.
