Daly back for Carlow minors

Carlow minor boss Turlough O'Brien has been given a major boost ahead of this weekend's Leinster championship clash against Longford with Thomas Daly's return to the squad.

The Burrin Rangers ace was on duty with the Ireland Under 18 rugby team last month, which saw him miss his county's defeat to Westmeath, but he has since been welcomed back to the squad.

"Thomas Daly is back in with us after his international rugby experience," O'Brien told the Carlow Nationalist newspaper.

"He couldn't commit to us before our first game but I asked the lads would they mind him coming in and they were delighted with the news. He can play any one of a number of central positions."

Now O'Brien is focusing on a win at Pearse Park on Saturday to keep his team's provincial hopes alive.

"We want a win," he said. "We know it will be difficult but we feel we showed enough in the first-half the last day. We are better than the way we finished.

"These are great lads to train and they've a good attitude and know they don't want the same disappointment again after all they've put in this year."
