Carlow's Andrew Gaule gets in his strike against Westmeath in the NHL Div 2 clash at Dr Cullen Park
Carlow inflicted a thumping 5-17 to 1-10 defeat on Leinster rivals Westmeath at Dr Cullen Park.

Left corner forward Paudie Kehoe was the star of the show for Kevin Ryan's side as he contributed 2-5 to the landslide victory.

The winners laid the foundations for victory with a three-goal haul in the first half, which saw them turn around 3-7 to 0-7 to the good.

The Lake County had wing back Paul Greville sent off for a second yellow card on the half-hour mark and with Greville's departure went any hopes of a fightback.

Craig Doyle's tenth-minute goal had the winners ahead by 1-3 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter and Kehoe added his brace of majors before the short whistle.

The visitors made three changes during the break in an attempt to get back into the game, with one of those substitutes, Brendan Murtagh, firing a free to the net on 40 minutes to close the gap to six points.

But Damien Roberts and sub Derek Byrne added further goals as the 15 men powered to a comprehensive win.
