Erin's Own defender John has been named the Co Carlow Sports Personality of Year at a recent gala function.

Rogers's topped the public vote that had over 7,000 unique votes cast and he received his award from former Republic of Ireland soccer international John Aldridge at the function held in the Seven Oaks.

Rogers is an accomplished hurler with both club and county and he earned a Christy Ring All Star this year as the county won the All-Ireland title for the second year running.

The Carlow hurlers received the Outstanding Achievement award following an impressive campaign in 2009. Tweet
