NFL 4: Carlow and Waterford share the spoils
February 21, 2010
Carlow 1-11
Waterford 1-11
Carlow denied Waterford their third straight win in Division Four in a fiery encounter at Dr Cullen Park yesterday afternoon.
Luke Dempsey's side finished the game with 14 men, while the visitors finished with one less than that in game which referee Brian O'Shea dished out a total of ten yellow cards and three red.
The sides couldn't be separated on the scoreboard either as they went in level on 0-7 apiece at the break, with Eric McCormack leading the way in the scoring stakes for Carlow.
After the restart, McCormack bagged an early brace of frees before his side were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute which substitute John Murphy dispatched to the Waterford net.
John Owens also made switches for the Deise which paid dividends, as replacement Liam O Lionain brought the visitors right back into the game with a well-taken goal in the 44th minutes, just as Waterford looked as though they were on a slippery slope.
With little time remaining the game was level on 1-11 each when Waterford had their second man shown the line, as right half-back Tony Grey was issued a straight red card. Moments later McCormack had the chance to win it for the home side, but his side-line free drifted just wide and both teams shared the spoils.
