Carlow football manager Luke Dempsey wants his side to burst from the blocks when the National Football League Division 4 campaign starts this weekend.

Dempsey's men welcome his former side Longford to Dr Cullen Park this Sunday.

A trip to Limerick follows six days later and one week after that Waterford make the short trip to Carlow town.

And Dempsey believes his side's promotion aspirations rest of winning at least two of those three outings.

He told The Nationalist: "They're tough openers and Longford at home will be a real test to see how they've come on since January.

"After the first three matches we'll know if we're in the promotion hunt or not. We'd be targeting four points from six." Tweet
