Limerick Camogie Notes 16/3
Limerick continue winning ways
Limerick 0-19 (0-11) Wexford 1-4 (0-2)
Irish Daily Star National League Division 1
Sunday 15th March at 2.30 pm in Bruff
Limerick recorded an excellent 0-19 to 1-4 win over Wexford in the League to maintain their position at the top of Group 1 of the League. Limerick were in control from the beginning and kept Wexford scoreless from play throughout the game.
Inspired by another excellent performance from Niamh Mulcahy, who scored an impressive 14 points including five from play, Limerick laid down a marker to the other teams in the top flight that the 2014 Intermediate Champions are not here to make up the numbers.
Limerick opened the scoring through a Niamh Mulcahy free, which was cancelled out by one from Wexford's Linda Bolger. Limerick then opened a lead through pints from Niamh Mulcahy and Aoife Sheehan before Wexford got one back again from Linda Bolger from a placed ball.
That was to be Wexford's last score of the half with Caoimhe Costelloe and Aoife Wilson joining Niamh Mulcahy on the scoreboard as Limerick opened a nine point half-time lead of 0-11 to 0-2.
Wexford's lack of penetration was due to an impressive display from the Limerick backs with captain Sarah Carey, Rebecca Delee and Judith Mulchay to the fore.
Wexford made changes to their half-back line at half-time in an effort to contain the pace of the Limerick forwards with Deborah Murphy, Karen O'Leary and Aoife Sheehan proving very difficult for the Wexford backs to contain.
Limerick continued to dominate after the break with Wexford 's only scores coming from placed ball Rebecca Delee joined Niamh Mulcahy in building Limerick's lead to 13 points going into the final 10 minutes. Wexford got a goal back when Áine Leacy doubled on a free that was dropped into the goal mouth but it was too late and with Niamh Mulcahy and Caoimhe Costelloe adding points from play in the dying minutes Limerick ran out with an impressive 12 point victory by 0-19 to 1-4.
While well aware that this was a Wexford side that was short its players from All-Ireland Club Champions Oulart the Ballagh the impressive nature of the victory shows a side not content to sit on their laurels and looking to make their mark at Camogie's top table.
While still mathematically possible that Limerick could miss out on a League semi-final place it now looks a certainty and may even be secured by results elsewhere before Limerick travel to Offaly for their final group game on Easter Sunday.

Limerick lose out in Division Three clash
Limerick 1-5 (1-3) Carlow 0-14 (0-6)
Irish Daily Star National League Division 3
Saturday 14th March at 2.30 pm in Ballybrown
Limerick lost out to Carlow by 0-14 to 1-5 in their League clash on Saturday in Ballybrown. The match which was a replay of the 2014 Junior A final saw a much changed Limerick side face a Carlow team who were out to prove a point.
Limerick opened the scoring in a closely fought first half through a Caitrín De Bhál free but that was quickly cancelled out by a point from Marian Doyle for Carlow. Two more points from Caitrín put Limerick ahead again only for Carlow to level again.
Adare's Lane sisters combined for Limerick's next score when Cliona broke down the left hand side and delivered a great ball into the goal mouth where Avril reached up to bat it into the net to put Limerick ahead 1-3 to 0-3.
Carlow however fought back and continued pressure led to Limerick conceding frees three of which were converted by Eleanor Treacy to send the sides in level at the break.
Carlow started the second half with great determination and five unanswered points in the first quarter built a significant lead. As the gap widened so Limerick tended to go for goals but the Carlow defence held firm and it was not until the last five minutes of the game that Limerick opened their second half account but by then it was too late and Carlow ran out deserving winners by 0-14 to 1-5.
Despite the disappointment of Saturday's result Limerick will know that a League semi-final slot is still well within their grasp and will look forward to next weekend's visit of Armagh and an Easter Sunday trip to Dublin for their final group game.

Minors in Munster Loss
Limerick 0-9 (0-4) Tipperary 4-11 (2-6)
Munster Minor Camogie Semi-Final
Saturday 14th March at 2.30 pm in L.I.T.
Limerick's minors lost out to a very strong Tipperary team in the Munster Minor Camogie Championship Semi-Final in L.I.T. on Saturday. Tipperary who were All-Ireland U16 champions in 2013 and 2014 are among the favourites for minor glory this year.
Limerick battled hard but with scores hard to come by Tipperary's goal threat gave them a 2-6 to 0-4 lead at the break. It was much the same after the break and two further goals for Tipperary killed the game as a contest.
Limerick management will have learned much from this encounter as they also used the game to give big match experience to a number of players. Limerick's focus will now return to the All-Ireland championship and a trip to Waterford next weekend for their second round match where they will look to get back to winning ways.
