November 25, 2014

Scotland Universities Mens Shinty team and the Ireland Camogie team were victorious following two Shinty-Hurling Internationals in Clonbullogue, Offaly on Saturday.

Craig Anderson and Arran MacPhee were joint top-scorers as Scotland Universities claimed a 6-17 (35) to 2-9 (15) win over Ireland.

Anderson bagged 3-2, while MacPhee registered 1-8 in a game which Scotland led throughout.

Two of Anderson's goals arrived in a second half, where the visitors hit Ireland with three unanswered goals inside six minutes of the restart.

The Glasgow Clyde College student netted his first goal in the 15th minute, with Scotland leading by 1-14 (17) to 1-4 (7) at half-time, with Edenderry's Shane Kelly netting the Ireland goal.

Fort William's Arran MacPhee capped an impressive year, which saw him also unbeaten at International level with the Scotland Under 21 and Under 17 sides, with some fine scores in this contest.

MacPhee scored three two-pointers in the opening half, and netting Scotland's fourth goal six minutes after the restart, after Conor Sweeney and Anderson netted a goal each.

Westmeath trio Eoin Price, Derek McNicholas and Niall O'Brien worked hard, with Ireland finishing strongly.

Dave Ryan bagged a late goal for the hosts after a powerful long-range strike, but Anderson completed his hat-trick late on to ensure a 20-point win.

Offaly's Grainne Egan bagged 2-3, as Ireland failed to trail an entertaining Shinty-Camogie tie, as they emerged 4-7 to 0-0 winners.

Despite the nature of the final score-line, Ireland were forced to work hard throughout, with Scotland camped in their half for large periods.

Goals from Offaly's Helen Dolan and Kildare's Aoife Trant helped Ireland to a 2-2 to 0-0 interval lead, with Egan netting two final quarter goals.
