ST MARYS STORM HOME WITH TWO VICTORIES

St Marys Secondary School, Naas made history at Hawkfield today by winning their first Kildare Camogie schools league titles with a two point win in the Minor final and a convincing win in the Junior final at the centre of excellence in Newbridge.

Their opposition in the Minor final was Scoil Mhuire of Clane who have been making great strives at this level recently. It was a closely contested battle and St Mary's were not assured of victory until the last blow of referee Ray Kelly's whistle. There were great clashes around the centre field area with Lorna Bergin of St Marys and Annie Harpur of Scoil Mhuire putting in fine displays but the outstanding Mid Fielder on the day went to Ciara Egan of the Clane school and Clane Camogie Club who chipped in with a goal and a point for her school. Naas were string in defense with Aine Conway solid at centre back and Katie Kelleghan and Megan Campion scoring up front. Unfortunately all the pressure the Clane girls put on in the last 10 minutes came to no avail and the Naas schools hung on by 2 points on a scoreline of
3-0 to 2-1.

In the Junior final it was one way traffic with Confey College battling hard but St Mary's unfortunately had too much fire power for the Leixlip outfit. St Mary's fielded two forwards from the minor final Katie Kelleghan and Megan Campion who again were on target for their schools but it was Sarah Clancy at centre forward doing most of the damage with a nice total of 2-5 to her credit - an excellent display of camogie from the Naas Camogie Player. Confey College had some great defending and was especially evident in keeper Kiva McGing who pulled off several superb saves. Sarah Boland also worked hard throughout for the Leixlip side but St Mary's won through well in the end on a scoreline of 7-7 to 0-0.

Congratulations to all the girls today and the hard work of their teachers who got them to their school final - a special word of thanks to Kildare GAA who made the pitch available at Hawkfield.
