Cavan Camógs help Ireland secure International Title in Style

Cavan camógs helped Ireland to a second victory in a row over the Scots in Séan Eifie Park, Ratoath on Saturday October 30th. The Irish side were on top from the start and had a comfortable win having secured a 3-04 to 0-0 lead between 20 minutes. Cavan's Roisín O'Keeffe was among the three Irish players to score a goal in the opening stages and followed her International goal with two more points before half time. Scotland had a better second half; however the Irish defence held firm with Monaghan's goalkeeper Roisín Mc Kenna making some fine saves. Cavan's Rosie Crowe and Bríd Boylan did their Breffni County proud with some fine displays of skill at this high level. Ulster dominated the Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel with ten camogie players from the province representing Ireland. Speaking about this year's Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel President of the Camogie Association Joan O'Flynn said "Congratulations to all those selected in this year's Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel. It is a tremendous honour to represent your country. Each of the players chosen on this year's panel are fantastic camogie ambassadors for their respective counties and have been rewarded for their excellent displays throughout the year."

Crosserlough v Laragh

This game took place on Saturday the 16th of October where both teams got off to a great start with the game been played at high tempo, Laragh got off the mark first with a fine goal which was followed by a point and a goal from Crosserlough. Laragh got a further 2 points, putting pressure on Crosserlough, who responded by adding a goal before half time Crosserlough 2-1, Laragh 1-2. The second half was equally as tight and very exciting with both teams trying their best. Laragh were first to score in the second half with a goal, leaving Crosserlough trailing by a point. As the game progressed neither teams gave up, but Crosserlough edged through to get the equaliser. This was followed by another point with minutes remaining, Laragh tried hard, but their backs were under pressure as the Lough got through for a goal which was to be the decider. In a hard fought skilful match, it was Crosserloughs' day with fine performances all over the field. The player of the match was justly awarded to Shauna Lynch who had an outstanding performance throughout the game.
Final score Crosserlough 3-3 Laragh 2-2.

Under-14 Div 2
Crosserlough v Bailieboro


This second of the under 14's games was played between Crosserlough and Bailieboro. Both teams tried hard to get off the mark, but it was but Bailieboro who hit lucky with a high ball landing in the back of the net. This was followed by another from a free, Crosserlough never gave up and they had a lot of chances but could not capitalise on them. In the second half with a lot of pressure on the Bailieboro backs as the Lough hit the net with a fine goal. However Bailieboro went straight back down the pitch and rattled the back of the net again. It was a fine display of camogie shown on the day. Bailieboro proved just that little bit stronger and came out victors in the end with a score line of Bailieboro 3 goals, Crosserlough 1 goal. There was great skill shown from both teams and if they progress, the future for camogie in Cavan looks bright.


Lacken v Castletara
Junior League Semi Final

Lacken travelled to Ballyhaise Sunday last to play the junior league semi final. Firstly, many thanks to Marie Brady who refereed the game, which otherwise would have been postponed. The game commenced and Castletara showed their strong ability by finishing the first half 2-0, Lacken 0-1. For the Lacken side, the girls showed strong determination not to be put off by the score for Castletara. The second half commenced with Castletara scoring one further goal and 3 points, for Lacken one point. Leaving the score 3-3 Castletara, Lacken 0-2. Castletara will meet Ballinagh in the Final, scheduled for Friday evening.
