Cronin admits to getting eyes opened

Ahead of this weekend's All-Ireland senior camogie final clash with Galway, former Cork star turned manager Denise Cronin has admitted that becoming the Rebel County's boss was a real eye-opener for her. Cronin says she needed to get her skates on when taking the helm and in bringing Con Malone and Pat Murray on board, the task of replacing retired superstars like Angela Walsh, Emer Dillon and Jennifer O'Leary began: "In some ways it was easy because there was a wealth of talent in Cork for the last few years," said the former ace defender who won six senior titles with the Rebelettes. "You had subs who never got their chance and were getting it now, so what people thought might be a bad thing has actually turned out to be a good thing. "I was lucky too because I rang Fiona (O'Driscoll, the last manager) and she gave me a lot of help. "She put in so much effort over the last three years, you'd hate to drop the ball after that. But I didn't realise it would be so time-consuming. As a player you just turn up, play and go home."
