'Replica' firearms discovered at Armagh GAA club

March 11, 2010
Two suspected firearms were discovered by children in the grounds of a GAA club in Armagh last week.

The guns were uncovered by children at the St. Patrick's club grounds in Cullyhanna on Wednesday evening. The find was reported to the PSNI who recovered the items and sent them for further examination. The police believe the firearms are replicas with locals suggesting that they were used as part of a circus act which had been located close to the club grounds at the time.

Inspector Davy Beck praised the community for their quick response in alerting the PSNI.

"I would like to thank the local community for their help and support in this matter. It shows that by working together, we can make this a safer community to live and work in," he said.
