Ulster MHC: Antrim demolish Derry

June 03, 2008
Antrim 6-21 Derry 1-10 Antrim booked their place in another ESB Ulster MHC final after breezing by Derry in Casement Park last Sunday evening by a massive 26 points. Derry more than matched their opponents for the opening ten minutes as they lead the Saffrons 0-4 to 0-3, but Peter Dallat's goal moments later made way for Danny McGrellis' side's downfall. The hosts limited Derry to just two points for the remainder of the half, while hitting a further 3-7 to take in a lead of 3-11 to 0-6 in at the interval. Christopher Quinn, who finished with 1-8, hit an early free from the restart but Derry would be thrown a minor life-line inside the first quarter of the half. A Mark McCormack goal on 43 minutes gave the Oak Leafers a glimmer of hope, but Dallat set up Turlough McCarry for a goal before adding a green flag himself for the Saffrons to sink any chance of a comeback spoiling their ambitions of landing a 50th provincial title when they face Down in two weeks.
