Liam bows out on a high

February 06, 2004
Griffin's friend Liam Dunne finally ended the speculation and this week formally announced his retirement from inter county hurling. While obviously disappointed with the 2003 All Star snub, Liam kept mum on this decision until now lest he be overlooked for consideration for the awards and the tour. Liam could have retired in 2003 and be known as the player with a perchance of being sent off in consecutive years of championship matches but having thought hard on his morning beach runs, he decided to give it one more term and how he turned on the style in 2004. His consistent and professional performances in the league and championship ensured that the Oulart-the-Ballagh leaves the scene in a manner fitting one of the counties greatest ambassadors and persons. The departure will leave a huge gap in the defensive line up of the team and John Conran will have to be on the look out for a permanent fixture to fill the void that the retirement of the little general in the blue helmet leaves behind.
