McGuirk under no illusions

Manager Johnny McGuirk says his Dublin charges face "a massive game" against Wexford in the Leinster MHC on Saturday.

While the game at Wexford Park represents the Dubs' first championship outing in 2016, the Model County have had the benefit of a 15-point victory over Westmeath earlier this month:

"I had a look at Wexford last Saturday week and I was impressed with what I saw," McGuirk told the Dublin GAA website. "They are a big, physical team that move the ball around well and we're under no illusions as to the challenge that we face.

"They will go into the game with a point to prove after what happened to them last year and having to travel down to Wexford Park is never easy at any time so we just have to knuckle down and make sure that we produce a performance that will be good enough for us to secure a positive result.

"With a fair few players available from last year, that experience should help and you would be looking for the more senior players to drive it on. Having said that, we are more than confident that the players that we pick on the day will possess the required temperament to perform on the day.

"It's a massive game for us and we just want the ball to be thrown in as championship is what all the lads love being involved in,"
