Fethard blast County Board

August 12, 2015

The Wexford County Board have been heavily criticised for their decision to throw Fethard out of the under-21 hurling championship.

Fethard chairman George Foley blasted the county board for coming to the decision after they were due to play Glynn-Barntown in the quarterfinal, but only received notice of the game on the same morning the match was due to be played.

A postponement was sought by Fethard, but the CCCC opted to give Glynn-Barntown a walkover instead.

Speaking to the Wexford People, Foley said: "It's very disappointing and short-sighted of the GAA in Wexford not to grant the club a postponement given that they had such a heavy schedule over the coming week which also included inter-county.

He added: "This all left us with a real dilemma. I spoke with the County Chairman. I told him what was going on in the county was hypocritical. I have been attending County Board meetings, I hear what's going on, but there's no interest in the clubs. The clubs are no longer relevant after all of this."
