Lee Chin says Wexford's goal when they squared up to Clare was to restore respect in Model County hurling.

Liam Dunne's heroic charges certainly achieved that, eliminating the All-Ireland champions from the Liam MacCarthy Cup race after a thrilling 180-minute Qualifier epic.

"We wanted to get that respect back and get Wexford fans excited again, to want to come out and watch us play and drive us over the line," the inspirational midfielder told The Irish Independent.

"We always knew over the last couple of years that we just needed one big win to get us motoring and hopefully that's done it

"We gave them what they'd wanted for years but we haven't won anything yet, we won't get carried away.

"I was a little bit disappointed that we weren't ruthless in the end, we should have been more clinical with our shots.

"But we came out in extra time and said, 'it's a new game, 15 on 15, we'll go back to our old tactics and try to push it through'. The fitness paid off, we did a lot of work through the year and we're going well now."
