HS hurling team of the week

July 07, 2014

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week.
It was another eventful weekend on the hurling fields, here's our team of the week.

1. Alan Nolan (Dublin)

No finger of blame for Dublin's Leinster final defeat can be pointed in the direction of Nolan who limited the damage with a number of fine saves.

2. Liam Ryan (Wexford)

Ryan was one of many heroes in the Wexford jersey in an epic hurling encounter.

3. David McInerney (Clare)

Staring the exit door in the face, the Banner County's full-back stood up to the Wexford challenge and played a major role as the All-Ireland holders fought back to send the game into extra-time.

4. Jackie Tyrell (Kilkenny)

Tyrell provided the launch-pad for numerous Kilkenny attacks when, more often than not, finding his forward colleagues when clearing his lines.

5. Andrew Shore (Wexford)

Wexford manager Liam Dunne will be hoping Shore can reproduce his top notch display in Saturday's replay.

6. Eoin Moore (Wexford)

The Oulart The-Ballagh clubman justified his recall to the Wexford starting 15 with an outstanding display.

7. Cathal Barrett (Tipperary)

The Premier County half-back produced a sure-footed display as Tipp secured a first championship success under Eamonn O'Shea's management.

8. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

The midfield dynamo seized control of the middle third of the Croke Park field right from the throw-in and didn't let up until the final whistle.

9. Lee Chin (Wexford)

The always willing Chin roamed forward to send over three crucial points in Ennis.

10. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)

The Cats sharpshooter has become something of a permanent fixture on our team of the week and no one can argue with his inclusion following his ten point haul against the Dubs.

11. Noel McGrath (Tipperary)

Along with John O'Dwyer and Seamus Callanan, McGrath caused consternation in the Galway defence and found the target with five points.

12. Colin Ryan (Clare)

The Banner County's placed-ball specialist showed signs of returning to the form of last year against Wexford and Davy Fitz will demand more of the same in the replay.

13. Conor McGrath (Clare)

A return of 1-5 from McGrath helped Clare keep their hopes of retaining the Liam McCarthy Cup alive.

14. Seamus Callanan (Tipperary)

The Galway back six was unable to cope wit the Drom-Inch star who accumulated an incredible personal tally of 3-8.

15. Liam Og McGovern (Wexford)

McGovern was the Model County's most lively forward and hit the Banner County for 1-4 from play.
