Wexford voice SKY concerns

April 09, 2014

Sky camera's will be a common sight around the GAA fields this summer.
The Wexford GAA board are vehemently against SKY Sports securing the broadcasting rights to 14 championship games this year.

The County Board is set to send a letter to Croke Park stating their objections to the deal that they feel will leave hundreds of thousands without access to the games on television.

Delegates at the most recent county board meeting were unanimous in their criticism of the deal and Wexford chairman Diarmuid Devereux stated that he was unsure of the reasons for the deal.

"I am unable to explain fully the media rights deal as I only got the details via national media followed by an e-mail from Croke Park," the Wexford People reports as Devereux saying.

"This media deal is a massive shift in GAA policy and requires serious debate at all levels. Our central council delegate, Paddy Wickham has confirmed to me he was not briefed on this.

He added: "If it is not about monetary gain why do it? We gain nothing except external viewers at the loss of loyal viewers at home."
