Wexford minor boss staying grounded

Wexford minor hurling manager Willie Cleary is keeping his feet on the ground.

Having steered the Model County to their first minor championship victory over Kilkenny since 1985 at Nowlan Park on Saturday, the winning manager knows there's still a long, long way to go.

Wexford will face either Laois or Offaly in the last four and opposition in the provincial final thereafter would most likely be provided by either holders Dublin or Kilkenny, who get a second chance via the back door.

"We're definitely not getting carried away," Cleary says in The Irish Independent.

"We beat Dublin this time last year in Parnell Park too but lost the Leinster final to them afterwards by four points, so there's still an awful long way to go and anything could happen yet.

"They [Kilkenny] lost Kevin Kenny very early on and started without Robbie Fitzpatrick, another of the stars for Kilkenny CBS this year, so we can't be too excited.

"Two years ago our U21s beat Kilkenny and were beaten in the Leinster final by Dublin and our minors were narrowly beaten by them in the semi-finals.

"There's a lot going on and an awful lot of people working very hard at it but only a lot of commitment and time are going to turn things around."
