Wexford injuries not serious
April 29, 2012
Wexford boss Jason Ryan is confident that Niall Murphy and Ben Brosnan will be fit for the Leinster SFC after both picked up injuries in last night's Allianz Football League Division 3 final loss to Longford.
Corner back Murphy was forced to retire after just 20 minutes, while star forward Brosnan was replaced nine minutes into the second half by Paddy Byrne. However, Ryan confirmed afterwards that the pair would be available for the Leinster SFC quarter-final on June 3, which could see Wexford meeting Longford again if they overcome Laois in the first round.
Ryan attributed Wexford's second half comeback - which saw them whittle a 10-point half-time deficit down to just two points at the final whistle - to the impact of substitutes such as Shane Roche.
"Longford defended very, very well. They were very well set up and we weren't up to scratch, it's as simple as that. We gave away too much possession," he said.
"But the guys were very hungry when they came on. They ran at them and won a lot of clean ball. They were a bit more direct and that paid off.
"But as a team, there was greater intensity. So sometimes when a player comes on it can mask the fact that all the other players are also increasing the intensity."
