Poor attendances at club games

Spectators weren't exactly storming the turnstiles to get into club matches in Wexford last weekend.

On a disappointing weekend for club and county coffers around the county, fans voted with their feet and opted to stay at home, leaving officers to count the cost of the no-show.

Attendances at club football matches were so low that it has raised serious question marks around the wisdom of a three-month break between the first round and second round of the championship.

The fact that matches clashed with big televised games in the All-Ireland SFC was also a factor.
