Wexford keeper Damien Fitzhenry
Current and past managers who have worked with Damien Fitzhenry have lined up to praise the Wexford hurling 'keeper's contribution to the cause after he announced his retirement.

Current county boss Colm Bonnar said 35 year old Fitzhenry leaves a "massive gap" to be filled.

"Only when a player of Damien's stature retires do you realise the massive gap he leaves behind," said Bonnar.

"But as one door closes, another opens and there's a great chance now for someone else to make that position their own.

"Damien was a marvellous goalkeeper, one of the top three in Ireland all during his career."

Meanwhile Liam Griffin who managed Fitzhenry and co. to the All-Ireland SHC title in '96, described the now-retired Fitzhenry as "No. 1 in the country in an era of absolutely fantastic goalkeepers.

"We will all miss him but I still think it is the right decision and I respect him for it. What does that man owe Wexford?

"He was just a fantastic servant and such a loyal Wexford man."
