Ryan: I couldn't walk away

| Wexford football manager Jason Ryan |
26 November 2009Jason Ryan has revealed that he couldn't bring himself to walking out on Wexford after one of their poorest ever seasons.
After guiding Wexford to a shock All-Ireland semi-final appearance last year, the young manager endured a hugely frustrating 2009 which saw the Slaneysiders record only one competitive victory - against Offaly in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror, the Waterford native said: "I originally wasn't going to stay on because with a 14-month-old child and a new arrival four weeks ago, it wasn't really ideal to be so heavily involved.
"I'm only married two years and the commitment, the time and the travelling it took meant that I'd said 2009 would be my last year.
"But things didn't really go as planned and I felt it wasn't the right time to walk away. A new person coming in would have meant a lot of changes and I don't think drastic changes are needed.
"A few things just need to be tweaked here and there.
"We believe in ourselves as a management group and we feel we can facilitate the improvements that are needed."
