Championship format remains unchanged
November 28, 2008
It has been confirmed that there will be no changes made to the current Wexford championship format for the 2009 season, following a lengthily discussion at a county board meeting last week.
Last Tuesday night week, several clubs within the county put forward their motions for consideration, but after more than one and a half hours of debate it was decided that the current format would be carried into the coming season.
Proposals for a change in the format have come about due to the ongoing fixture problems, which propelled this year as a result of the county footballers run to the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland series this past summer.
However, the four motions put before county board chairman, Ger Doyle all failed following debate and it was decided that the status quo would remain.
On the night it was decided to remain with the Senior 'B; championships, while it was agreed that a change to the structure of the All-County leagues would be need to be considered.
