First-half goals lead Adamstown to minor crown
November 28, 2008
Adamstown 2-10
Castle Island Gaels 0-7
First-half goals from Eoin Cashin and James Breen proved the difference here as Adamstown stormed to the Minor football Division Two title last Sunday at Wexford Park.
It was Castle Island Gaels that got themselves off top the better start through the sound free-taking of Graham Cuillen, but Breen, Conor Hickey and Shane Bradley were quick to cancel those placed balls out and give their side the lead by the 10-minute hour mark.
On 12 minutes Adamstown had their first goal when PJ Thorpe broke forward and crashed his effort of a point off the post and Eon Cashin was quickest to pounce on the rebound and strike the ball to the net.
When young ace James Breen fired in the winners second goal eight minutes the later the game was as good as over, with Adamstown leading 2-5 to 0-3 at the interval.
In the second-half both sides had matched each other score for score, with Graham Cullen continuing his good accuracy from placed balls for the trailers, but it was the Shane Bradley and Conor Hickey who helped point their side over the finish line and to the Division Two title.
