Meyler backs Bonnar appointment
November 14, 2008
John Meyler believes Colm Bonnar can be a success as Wexford hurling manager.
The former Tipperary star was named as Meyler's successor last Tuesday night, and the Cork-based college lecturer feels he is an excellent appointment.
Meyler was in charge of the Cork IT team which lost to the 2004 Fitzgibbon Cup final to the Bonnar-managed Waterford IT, and points out that he has coached some of the top hurlers in the country.
"He has worked with the two Jacobs and Keith Rossiter. He will have an insight into their hurling and I think Colm will be excellent," said Meyler, who was controversially removed as Wexford manager last month.
"As a coach, Colm knows what it takes to win an All-Ireland. He has a strong insight into some of Kilkenny's players having worked with them at WIT - Henry Shefflin, JJ Delaney, John Dalton, the Reids - and he'll now them inside out."
